INDONESIA

Indonesia, world’s hugest insular state, is very famous to be a popular holiday destination for a lot of Europeans, mostly the two main islands Bali and Java. With it’s aroun 240 mio. inhabitants, Indonesia is also world’s fourth populous country. Of course, its 17,508 islands offer a lot of space for an amazing richness in species, Indonesia has the second-highest biodiversity on earth right after Brazil (you can find there for example the famous Sumatra tigers or the Rafflesia, world’s biggest flower). Indonesia exports almost 3,000 tons of frog legs to France every year – I guess you can imagine why…Furthermore, I do really like the Indonesian national anthem, the “Indonesia Raya”.

The Indonesians’ most popular sport definitely is badminton. Since its introduction as an official Olympic sport in 1992, the Indonesians could win every (!) badminton gold medal since then. Well, that’s an announcement! Football is also very popular and the Indonesian team belongs to the strongest selections from South East Asia, but nevertheless they could qualify only once for a WC final round so far (1938, back then as the Dutch East Indies). The Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in the capital Jakarta belongs to the biggest stadiums worldwide with its more than 100,000 seats. Actually, the most valuable player in the “Merah Putih” (the “Red-White”) is captain Boas Salossa who currently plays in his home league for Persipura Jayapura.

As I purchased my Indonesian shirt by auction in Spanish eBay, I almost cut capers. As it finally reached my house after a long postal journey, I realized that it isn’t matchworn after all, because the chest numbers used to be placed in the middle in official matches. Nevertheless, the shirt with it’s qualifier patches from 2014 and the printing from Andik Vermansyah of course is another treasure for my collection and was a real bargain as well. Many thanks to Sascha who transacted the “deal” via PayPal for me. And if you have some tiem to google “great” Vermansyah, you will find out quickly that this shirt will never ever fit me even in a thousand years… J
