MALI

Seydou Keita (r., AS Roma)
South Africa vs. Mali 2:4 a.p.
Durban (South Africa), 02.02.2013

One more time legendary Sascha enriches my collection with a jersey that truly means a lot to me. Since a longer time, I’m a great sympathizer of African football, especially from the national team of western African Mali. In school I had to write my spatial analysis in Geography about Mali and therefore I occupied myself a lot on one of the poorest states in the world. Regarding this background I have a lot of respect for what the “eagles” from Mali show in football – although the two legends Frédéric Kanouté and Seydou Keita played for the national team for a long time.
The greatest success for Mali that never made it to a World Cup was a second place in the African Cup of Nations 1972 in Cameroon. The last two times they surprised again and got a third place each in 2012 and 2013. This time, Mali started again comfortably in the qualification round with 2 wins out of 3. I will watch the African Cup of Nations again in January 2015 with interest – this time at last with a Malian jersey!
The design that reminds me of an table tennis shirt is simply amazing. The diagonal stripes show the colors of the Malian flag.
