INDIA

(All India Football Federation)

Not only the legendary Kamasutra has its origins on the exotic subcontinent India, but also a lot of very, very spicy food (I ordered a Curry Madras “a little spicy” in Hamburg once and was incapacitated afterwards for three days). Right after China, India is the country where the world’s second most people live and also the biggest democracy on earth. Also, many people connect India with hardly understandable call center guys and of course Bollywood, world’s largest movie industry. Very interesting: determining an unborn child’s sex with ultrasonic is forbidden in India.

Football is just a minority sport in India after cricket, hockey and yoga, which might be a reason why a country with that much inhabitants cannot bring a football team together which is better than a 171st place in the FIFA world ranking. India even has the Formula 1 team Force India. In 1950, the “Bhangra Boys” were even invited for the World Cup but cancelled their participation shortly because the FIFA didn’t allow them to play without shoes. At present, there’s a bunch of former European football stars trying to make the football league of India, Indian Super League, big and popular.

Again, I got the nice blue Nike shirt from Björn Claus - dhan’yavāda, Björn! While the shirt altogether is relatively plain, I really like the pale blue accents at collar and sleeves. The Indian footballers are very happy to wear it, too, as you can see clearly in the picture.
