Costa Rica (Spanish for „rich coast“) is known to be one of the most progressive countries in Latin America and is also often called “Central American Switzerland” because of its stable democracy and its neutrality (Costa Rica doesn’t even have an army). Very striking: Costa Rica is also very eco-friendly and gets almost 90% of its energy from regenerative sources. 27% of the land’s space is under nature protection. Its very rich biodiversity and the 800 miles of coast make Costa Rica a very popular vacation resort nowadays. Funny: most of the toilet slushes in Costa Rica aren’t made for conventional toilet paper which is why a lot of tourists accidentally cause toilet blockages and the paper has to be thrown away into special buckets. At least, you can buy bananas in Costa Rica for only 5 cent.

Ticos! During the WC of 2014, the Costa-Rican team showed by far the most impressive performance and unluckily failed in the quarter finals after a penalty shoot-out against the Netherlands after they had defeated sensationally Italy and Uruguay. The Costa-Ricans played themselves into the heart of every football fan with their very passionate fighting.  They could win the North and Central America Championship already three times. Stars of the team are Brian Ruíz, Joel Campbell and their spectacular goalie Keylor Navas who even transferred to Real Madrid after the World Cup.

Unfortunately, I missed the chance to buy the actual (very beautiful) Costa Rica shirt as they were sold for a very fair price at sportsdirect.com. That’s why I am even more happy now that I got an old Joma shirt for low money on eBay. Although it is shaped even squarely, I am very happy to add the most sympathetic participant of WC 2014 to my collection.
