ZANZIBAR

(Zanzibar Football Association)

As the island of Zanzibar is only a half-autonomous part of Eastern African Tanzania, the Association is no member of the FIFA. They became member of the CAF in 2004 and by now try to become member of the FIFA, too.

Since 1949, the ZFA played many friendlies and achieved with winning the CECAFA-Cup 1995, a regional Eastern Africa Cup, its greatest success ever. Unfortunately, the national team got kinda enacted by the German wannabe comedian Oliver Pocher who “lead” the team as a manager to a friendly against a selection of German celebs and ex-footballers in Hannover 2005. At least, Zanzibar won 3-1. Taking part in the FIFI Wild Cup, an alternative tournament for non-FIFA countries, Zanzibar made it to the final and lost against Northern Cyprus in a penalty shootout.

From these days is also my jersey which my team mate Sebastian Ohrt organized me gorgeously. I guess that the awesome leopard design can speak itself. On the back shoulder, the word “Zanzibar” is also embroidered. Strange: the Danish club Aarhus GF played one season in exactly the same templates as third jerseys.

In this spirit remains the name of the Association in Suaheli: Chamba Cha Mpira Wa Miguu Zanzibar!
