MEXICO

Vamos!

The Mexican national team battles against the USA for the supremacy in the CONCACAF-zone. My teammate José Cons who gave me this jersey generously as a present made me support “El Tri”, too.

With 19 participations (!), Mexico is a permanent guest in World Cups but therefore also the team with the most World Cup defeats worldwide. Mexico also played the first World Cup match ever (1-4 against France) 1930 in Uruguay. They could win the CONCACAF Cup nine times, last in 2011, and also the Confed Cup in their own country in 1999.

Their qualification for this year’s World Cup wasn’t sure for a long time as they had to face New Zealand in the relegation matches to achieve their ticket. Then they played a really great tournament with the unbelievable goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and lost against the Netherlands very unlucky.

According the jerseys, the Mexicans have taken the cake many times, especially with the colorful goalkeeper jerseys of Jorge Campos out of which one produce hot-air balloons now, I guess. Also cool: the “Peanuts style” away jersey of 2014.

Mexico also has the biggest football stadium in the world, the famous Estadio Azteca in Coyoacán, Mexico City, where 105.000 people fit into.

During the World Cup in Germany 2006, José bought this shirt and wore it to support his team. It’s a wonderful shirt in my opinion, I really like the Aztec style of the V-stripe on the chest (picture 4). Grácias, José, I promise to cherish it and often wear it to support the Mexican team in our sportsbar! Vamos!
